Your 4 must have products

It’s been so long since i’ve updated. I’m back, and hopefully a youtube channel will be comming in the next fImageew weeks. I just need to secure a camera.

Hair Beginning Kit

These are 4 types of products that are importa to have in order to start on a hair journey. They all do very different things, and are all important to keep your hair’s overall health.

1. Moisturizing Shampoo

A moisturizing shampoo is very important because you want something that will wash our hair, but not leave it dry. It’s best to look for shampoos for african Americans like, Cream Of Nature shampoos, but if you’re strapped for money, a great alternative is Aussie Moist Shampoo. Just make sure to add oils into it so it doesnt leave your hair  feelinhg too dry.

2. Moisturizing Deep Conditioner

Because black hair is naturally dry you need something to add moisture to our hair. This is a very important step that should be done with every wash because shampoos take oils and moisture out of your hair, and a deep condtioner puts it right back in. It is best to use one that is marketed towards african american hair because they are usually very thicke, and packed with oils that will nourish the hair. I personally love Dark and Lovely Moisture Seal Deep Conditioner, or Aussie Moist Conditioner with a bunch of oils mixed in it.

3. Protein Deep Conditioners

These are usually done once a month, or when you feel that your hair is breaking at the ends. Protein deep conditioners are important for naturals, and relaxed ladies. It’s a MOST for relaxed girls because the relaxer has broken down your hair bonds, and you need a protein conditioner to build it back up again and make it strong. For my natural ladies, it’s still important, but i’d suggest focusing on moisturizing deep conditioners. For protein conditioners i suggest Organics Olive Oil Hair Mayonaise, or, or mix some edible hair mayonaise with egg yoke into your hair. Just make sure to rinse out with cool water. 🙂

4. Leave In/Daily Moisturizer+ Sealing Oil

A leave in conditioner is what you add in your hair the steps i have mentioned above. These are great becuse they will give your hair slip, and allow you to comb though it for roller sets, or any other styles you may be trying to achive. A Daily Moisturizer is a thicker cream that you put on your hair on a daily, or every second day basis to keep your hair feeling soft and moisturized untill you wash again. This will keep your hair from breaking through out the week. It’s important to seal with an oil so that the moisture will get trapped in your hair. The oil acts as a barrier, keeping your moisturizer in your hair, and not allowing wind, and col weather to make it dry again.

Alternative to MAC Studio Fix Powder Plus Foundation

What It Claims

Cover girl Oil Control Pressed Powder

  • Helps control shine through out the day
  • wont clog pores
  • Dermatological tested
  • Hypoallergenic

For a clean, fresh, shine-free look that lasts. Oil-absorbers help skin look fresh and naturally beautiful.

About three weeks ago, i went to walmart looking for a good Cover Girl powder. My friend uses one, so i thought what they heck, they cant be that bad. They are all over TV anyways. So, i chose to get the Cover Girl clean pressed oil control powder because i have oily skin, and because the powder had red/pink undertones in it (NW in MAC). Surprisingly, Tawny was my exact match. So, anyways, i bought it, not expecting anything great. I just needed a quick powder that could help control my oil.

What I Think

I LOVE THIS POWDER. So i wasn’t expecting anything really amazing in the oil control department since i bought this for only 5 dollars. Not suprisingly, it didnt really control my shine. It removed the shine on my face when i put it on, but my face got oily after a few minutes like usuall. What i did like about this was that it didnt make it worse. For example, Studio fix powder is the worst for oily skin. It will actually MAKE your skin more oily than it actually is. Then at the end of the day, you find that your face looks dirty and disgusting. On top of that, it’s a very heavy powder, and it transfers everywhere.

I prefer this farrr more than studio fix powder. Although it doesnt give as much coverage, it’s still pretty good at covering up your imperfections. It keeps your face looking clean throught the day, unlike the studio fix.

My Rating?

8.7/10

It promises oil control when it doesn’t control your oils at all, well at least not for me. But, for 6 bucks, you cant really complain.

Formula 10.0.6 Seriously Shine Free

More like seriously SUCK!…nah just joking. This product doesnt suck, but it’s misleading. I mean, with the name “Formula 10.0.6, SERIOUSLY SHINE FREE” you would expect some great stuff right? It was even invented by some scientist who uses bamboo extract, apparently that’s supposed suck up all the oil.

For one thing! The bamboo extract is like 12th on the ingredient list, which is kind of stupid. But anyways, moving on to the product. I saw this at Walmart the other day, and i was like ohhh, nice new product. Im always looking for things for oily skin, so i couldn’t resist buying it.

What It Claims

Seriously. Get a shine free look all day! Seriously Shine Free is a matte-finish moisturizer with Bamboo extract to absorb excess oil and provide a soft, smooth and shine-free complexion that lasts.

What I Think

Ok, so a lot of people who have used it have complained that it broke them out. I’ve only used it once so far, so i dont know who will happen with continual usage. Also, some people say that it’s not moisturizing enough. If you think that, maybe you dont really have oily skin, because it should provide sufficient moisture to people with oily skin.

When you put this product on, it instantly takes away the oil, while leaving a sheen on your skin. This product is kind of greasy, which is weird since it’s oil free, but it’s not very greasy.

So, i wore this to work, and after 2 hours i asked my friend if my face was shiny. She said no.  Two hours later, i went to the washroom and noticed that my nose was shiny, but my forehead and the rest of my face were doing “okay.” Clearly this didn’t keep me shine free all day. Maybe if you have a mild case of the oiliness this would be perfect for you, but it isnt for me.

6/10

I as disappointed in this product, but it’s still okay, i will continue to use it.

Good Looking Men Cheat

I was watching Millionaire Matchmaker with my sister, and i was like why are they setting her up with all ugly guys? She looked at me and said “don’t you know that’s how it works?” I looked at her, shocked. Of course i knew how it worked, but i didn’t expect her to say that.
She then went on to say, good looking men will cheat. If your not a ten, don’t even go for a guy that’s higher than a five because they will just cheat on you. I was shocked and amused at the same time.

‘They will cheat on you with those music video girls. I hope you dont go for a pretty boy because he will just dump you for a light skinned girl.”
I laughed cause although it has some truth in it, obviously not all guys are like this.

My sis and her friend are kinda screwed in the head when it comes to guys. Her best friend is determined to marry and ugly man so that he wont cheat on her.

Fabulous Finds :)

My march break has been filled with work, work, and even more work. I started out with only 2 shifts then someone got sick, and i ended upwith 3 more. That practically filled all my March Break with work at tim hortons.

I finally got to go shopping the other day, and here’s some of the stuff that i picked up.

Picked up this dress at Urban Behaviour on Monday when they were having a 50% off sale. Got it for $17. Sorry the picture is not very clear. Love this dress, i’ve been wanting to get it for a while now.

I got this from Sirens for only $17 dollars also, minus the belt. It’s

very cute, and it has feathers, it’s part of their new spring collection. Wore in with plain black tights.

These are things that i picked up in the past week. The one in the bottle is Queen Helen’s Mint Julep Mask. I picked this up from a beauty supply store near my house for $4.99. The one in front of it on the right is Cover Girl Clean Pressed Powder. The One beside that is Rimmel Stay Matte in Translucent. The one in front of that is NYC Smooth Skin Pressed Powder. The skinny tube is Clinique Line Smoothing concealer. I will be reviewing all these products soon. I’m totally inlove with the line smoothing concealer, only concealer that doesn’t crease under my eyes.

Pattie loves…Mac Blot Powder?

What it Claims

A unique pressed powder designed primarily to provide shine control without adding any noticeable colour or texture. Sets foundation, finishes faces. For use in professional situations and for frequent touch-ups. Blot Powder contains Mica and Silica to adsorb excess oils and reduce shine on the skin’s surface.

What I Think

Last year, this used to be MY product. It was the only thing that i would use on my face. Like, this stuff is true to what it claims. It ads absolutely no color or coverage to your face. It comes in only 5 shades, so you pick the one thats closer to your skin color.

Because this has no coverage, you can pack on as much as you want, and it wont even really look different. This stuff kept me absolutely oil free for like 5 hours. I only had to touch up once a day.

Besides the price, i absolutely HATE the packaging of this product. Like oh my god. I have re-purchased this product twice, and both times, it’s broken. My sister bought one, and it broke within 24 hours.  It doesn’t even have a separate compartment to keep the puff. Overall, great product, but because of the sucky packaging, i wont buy it again. It’s just too messy to be carrying around a broken compact.

My Rating?

7/10

Because the packaging sucks, and it has no compartment to put the puff

Pattie Loves….(beautiful skin) how to achieve it? Advice

So i wouldnt say that i have horrible skin, but it is un evan. I have dark spots on my forehead from acne scaring, and just over unevaness around my face.

Although i love makeup, i love the whole flawless look foundation gives you, it’s just not practical for me. I have Suuuuppper oily skin, and my makeup is usually melting off my face within a few ours. Blotting with sheets and powders are just too much work.

I just want to clear up my skin. Anyone have any recommendations of products that can clear up african american skin? Even if your not black, any suggestions will help 🙂 thnx.

preferably things that are not expensive, thnx.

ohhh, i also have very sensitive skin

Pattie loves….Laura Geller Welcome Matte Enhancer

What it Claims

The tiniest amount of this amazing gel-based liquid will keep skin looking fresh, clean and shine-free, all day long. Its subtle, light-diffusing properties actually shrink the look of pores towards a porcelain finish. All without adding an extra layer of makeup.

What I Think

My sister got this on sale at Sephora for about $15 dollars last year, so i dont kno how much it really is. So, this product has the regular consistancy as a silicone based primer. It has no weird smell to it too, and goes on clear.

So, i have REALLY shiny skin. Like omg, my nose will get shiny within an hour o putting on foundation, and within 2, my whole face is like a slick ball. Thats just to show you how well this product works. It keeps met MATTE (shine free) for 5 and a half hours. After that, its just my nose thats shiny, and even then its just a tiny shine. This stuff is really great, for my extremely shiny skin, i only had to fix it up once. I usually wear this on bare skin, but it’s a great foundation primer for those days that i choose to wear extra foundation. Also, when you wear it on your bare skin, after about 2 hours, you start to get a nice glow on your skin that looks youthful, not greasy 😉

Pattie loves…Wave Nouveau Finishing Lotion

What it claims…

This rich lotion contains  blend of silicone and humectants to provide shine, softening and moisture to natural and permanently wave hair. Apply as need to maintain your Wave Nouveau style

Fisrt 3 Ingredients

Water, propylene Glycole, Glyecerine

What i think about it

This was one of the first products that i tried when i decided to start taking care of my hair last march. I bought a large bottle, the 33.8 FL.OZ which cost me about $16 CAD.

This product is very light. It’s a clear liquid  that has kind of a foamy colour. Sorry, i have no other words to escribe it lol. But, this product makes you hair sooooo soft. Like omg, i have lots of products in my room, but by far this is the best one. The only thing that sucks about it is that the main ingredients are humectants (prodylen glycole, glycerin) which are great in the summer, but not so much in the winter. So, basically, i cant use this product in the winter, because it will just make my hair dry, instead of soft.

This product is really great for shine. Like i put this in my hair, and it gets a natural sheen to it, not the kind that you get from oil. Also, this product is oil free, so if you dont use oil in you hair, but want something moisturizing this is definitly a great option. Although the first ingredient is water, you can use it on flat ironed hair without fear of having it revert. It’s so packed with glycerine, that it wont do that. This product has wheat protein in it, so if you are someone that is protein sensitive you might want to stay away.

My Rating?

8/10

This is honestly the best rating you will see on my blog. Great product, only drawback is you cant use it in the winter. Unless, you do a trick that i will blog about later
